Cost Categories (Admin)

A Cost Category is a way to assign a cost category to each part when the model is published. Rules are defined by you to assign parts to each cost category.

A Cost Category:

  • is an optional setting
  • is how a company assigns parts to a cost category
  • is displayed on the Model Viewer Categories tab and includes the number of parts and % of parts currently in each category
  • can also be associated with an accounting code and color for identification in the Model Viewer
  • examples might include Conduit, Duct, Pipe, Structure, Cable Tray, Hangers, Anchors, Materials
  • can utilize any property published from an AutoCAD drawing or Revit model

Configuration

To create a new cost category:

  1. Configure a filter that can be applied to your published models that captures the cost category. See the Filters (Admin) article for more information. For example, to categorize all Rectangular Duct, set a rule where CID = 866.

  2. To configure the Cost Category, go to Admin > Company > Cost Categories, click New Cost Category and enter values.

    1. Name - The Cost Category name and Code will display in the STRATUS.Part.CostCategory field.

    2. Filter - Select the filter to be used to isolate elements for this Cost Category. In this example, select the filter "Rectangular Duct for Cost Category" created above.
    3. Code - This is the Cost Category code used by your company.
    4. Color - This is the color of the parts that match this Cost Category when Display Modes > Categories is selected.

  3. Once configured, publish a model that includes parts that match the filter. Select one of the parts, display it's properties and verify that the STRATUS.Part.CostCategory field has the correct Name and Code.

  4. Note: Cost Categories can be manually changed under Actions > Categories.
