Project Roles (Admin)

Project Roles (Admin)

Project Roles enable granular permissioning of Stratus features including menu items,  Filters, Divisions, Reports, and Tracking Statuses.  In order for a user other than the company administrator to login to Stratus, at least one project needs to be setup. The Project Admin role is configured out-of-the-box with all permissions and can be assigned to anyone. This section only needs to be considered when your company wants to differentiate project roles and permissions.

Note: The ability for a user to view a package on the Packages Dashboard depends on having the correct Project Role for the Tracking Status, Package Category, and the Division associated with the package.

A Project Role is a permission configuration that applies across all company projects. Only a user whose project role is Project Admin can configure project roles. The project role determines which dashboards, pages, features a user can access.  Stratus ships with project roles including Project Admin, Detailer, Project Manager, Shop Manager, Shop Work Field Manager, Field Worker, and each includes default values. These names can be edited, deleted, cloned, and new project roles can be created. Each user is assigned one project role and the Project Admin (project role) can create as many project roles as needed.

Set Project Role Permissions

To set project role permissions:

  1. Login as a user who has Project Admin permission. Note: The user who first sets up a company account has the Project Admin project role by default. This can be changed later.

  2. Go to Admin > Company > Project Roles. The Project Roles configuration page displays. By default, no Project Roles will display, but the Project Admin role has access to everything and all other out-of-the-box roles have access to nothing.

  3. To display Project Roles, click the Select Roles to Show (max 15) button. Default Project Roles and Project Roles defined by your company will display.

  4. Check the Project Roles to view.

  5. The selected Project Roles will display for anyone who has permission to view this page.

  6. Project Roles columns can be moved left/right using the arrow buttons.

  7. Click the Expand/Collapse All button to Expand all parent/child Project Roles.

  8. For each project role, check the checkbox associated with the item to give permission to the item.

    1. For example, if the Project Admin wants to give the Shop Worker access to Models > Viewer > Filters but not Display Mode, he can check Filters and all Filters will be checked, but Display Mode will not.

  9. Setting changes immediately impact Stratus users.

Clone a Project Role

Use the Clone option to create a new project role that includes many of the same permissions as an existing project role.

To clone a Project Role:

  1. Under Admin > Company > Project Roles, under the Project Role column name, click the Clone button.

  2. The cloned column will display with the same name plus a number and includes everything checked in the original column. Move the column using the left right arrows above the project role name.

  3. Click the column header to rename the project role.

Delete a Project Role

To delete a Project Role:

  1. Click the Delete button associated with the project role.

  2. The Delete dialog will display prompting you to select a role to re-assign users that have been assigned the project role being deleted. Select one and click OK.

Set a User's Project Role on a Project Team

For each project, users of your company need to be added to a project team. And, for each project, each team member is assigned a Project Role. Tip for managing user's project roles: Users who have been assigned to a group under Admin > Company > Users can be quickly added to the team with a set project role. See the Users (Admin) article for more information.

To assign a user to a project team and set their project role for that team under Admin Project Teams, see the Team (Admin) article for more information.
