ZPL Label Print Emulator

Q:     Can I emulate printing a Zebra label? 

A:     Yes. You'll need to install and configure the Zpl Printer program as follows:

  1. Go to the Chrome Store at: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/zpl-printer/phoidlklenidapnijkabnfdgmadlcmjo


  2. Click Add to Chrome and follow the prompts.
  3. Open the Zpl Printer program. Note the Host name and the Port number.


  4. In Windows, go to View Devices and Printers at: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Devices and Printers.
  5. Click Add a Printer and then click the The Printer that I want wasn’t listed link.


  6. Select the Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname option and click Next.


  7. Set the following:
    1. Select Device type = TCP/IP Device
    2. Enter Hostname = 127.0.0.1 and Port name = 9100, or whatever port name displayed above
    3. Uncheck the Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use option.
    4. Click Next.


  8. Detecting the TCP/IP port will display.


  9. Once done, the Additional Port Information page will display. Leave the Device Type = Generic Network Card and click Next.


  10. On the Install the printer driver page, select Manufacturer = Generic and Printers = Generic / Text Only and then click Next.


  11. For Printer name, enter ZPL Chrome Extension and click Next.


  12. The success message will display. Click Finish.


Testing the Label Printer Emulator

You can either test the ZPL printer by printing from Notepad or skip down to printer out of the GTP STRATUS Workstation application (below).

To test the printer by printing from Notepad:

  1. To print out of Notepad, open Notepad and paste the following ZPL label code text into Notepad.

  2. With the Zpl Printer program still open, print this to the Zpl Chrome Extension printer by clicking File > Print > Select Printer = ZPL Chrome Extension.


  3. Bring the Zpl Printer into focus and you should see a label similar to the following.


To Print a Label using the STRATUS Print application

  1. Open the STRATUS Print application and click Settings.
  2. Under Label Printer, select your ZPL Chrome Extension.
  3. And since you are emulating the use of a TigerStop machine, check the Developer Mode checkbox, and then click OK.


  4. After sending a cut list to the TigerStop in STRATUS, click the Move button to simulate moving the TigerStop into place. Click the Done button to print the label. Repeat as needed.


  5. Bring the Zpl Printer into focus and you should see a label similar to the following.
