Package Planning / Actual

Planning and Package Creation Summary

The Planning and Actual section is an optional feature that populates the Start Dates, End Dates, and Durations for Phases on the Packages > Schedule page and reports that reference the STRATUS.Package.*Duration field.

  1. Initial Phase Duration (days) can be configured:
    1. At the Company level Company under Admin > Company > Package Categories. See the Duration Days Company Level Configuration article for more information.

    2. At the Project level under Admin > Projects > Settings. See the Duration Days Project Level Configuration article for more information.

  2. For the Duration Day to be applied to a package during the create package process:

    1. Package Category (required) - The package category that includes Duration Days for one or more phases must be selected.
    2. Phase (optional) - Phase defaults to On Site, but can be changed to a particular Phase. Selecting a phase will only denote which Start Date will be set with the Start Date entered (below). Initial Start Dates will populate the other Phases based on the Duration Days calculations.
    3. Start Date (optional) - The Start Date is used to set the Start Date of the selected Phase.  If a Start Date is not entered, all Phase Start Dates will be empty.
      1. The meaning of On Site is defined by your company.
      2. On the Packages > Dashboard, the Required Date = On Site date.
    4. Note: Duration - If the Package Category selected includes Duration (days), then those Phase Start Dates will be calculated based on the Start Date of the selected Phase (#2).

  3. New Package Creation
    1. Phase Start Date - After the new package is created that includes a Phase Start date, the Link Phase Calculations toggle is off and users can manually change any individual setting (Ex. Start Date, End Date, or Duration), but this change will not impact other dates or settings. In addition, no date or phase is has the radio button selected to lock the setting.

    2. No Phase Start Date - After a new package is created that does not include a Phase Start date, the Link Phase Calculations button, under the Package’s > Properties > Planning button, will default to On (Enabled) rather than Off (Disabled). This way, when dates are entered in the Planning table, they automatically calculate without having to remember to enable the Link Phase Calculations button.
  4. Link Phase Calculations toggle to on - Click the Link Phase Calculations toggle to on when you want to base all phase dates off a date or duration change. For each change made in the Planning table, all of the phase dates will be updated based on that change.
Note: The Link Phase Calculations toggle button can be toggled on or off for each individual user but any updated dates or durations display immediately for all users.

  5. Reset Planning Dates - The Reset Planning Dates button is now on the Packages Dashboard making it easier to reset planning dates to the default. This button is still in the Planning table under Properties for each package.

  6. Packages Dashboard - Editing a package in the Packages Dashboard will adhere to individual package settings for date/duration locks and Link Phase Calculations.

  7. Start Date, End Date, and Duration can be edited:
    1. Under Packages > Schedule by editing the values of the Gantt chart.
    2. Under Packages > Properties > Planning in the Planning section (this article).
    3. Under Packages > Dashboard when a report is configured to use the STRATUS.Package.*Duration and STRATUS.Package.*StartDT fields.

Edit Planning Section

A package’s Start Date, End Date, and Duration (days) can be manually edited in the Planning section of the Package’s Properties tab. Any edits will also update the Packages > Schedule after the page has been refreshed. Similarly, any changes to a Phase Start Date, End Date, and Duration (days) on the Packages > Schedule page will also update the Planning section after the page is refreshed.  Note: The On Site date is not editable under Planning, however, it is editable by editing the Required Date on the Packages Dashboard (Default report).

Only two values are editable at any one time (denoted by the blue circle). Below are the three ways to edit a Phase.

  1. To calculate the End Date:
    1. Set the Start Date and Duration to be editable.

    2. Change the Duration or Start Date. In this example, the Duration is changed from 2 to 10. 8 week days are added to the End Date which changes from 12/1/2022 to 12/13/2022.

  2. To calculate the Duration:
    1. Set the Start Date and End Date to be editable.

    2. Change the End Date or Start Date. In this example, the End Date is changed from 12/1/2022 to 12/7/2022. Given the Start Date, the Duration is calculated from 2 days to 6 days.

  3. To calculate the Start Date:
    1. Set the End Date and Duration to be editable.

    2. Change the End Date or Duration. In this example, the End Date is changed from 12/1/2022 to 12/19/2022. Given the Duration, the Start Date is calculated from 11/29/2022 to 12/15/2022.

  4. The Duration (days) Total - Displays the total number of workdays (Saturdays and Sundays) are not included.
  5. Estimated Hours - The Estimated Hours field can be used as needed but is not used in any calculation or report.

Actual

The Actual data table is read-only and is directly related to the Admin > Company > Tracking Statuses for each Phase (Office, Purchasing, Shop, Field). See the Tracking Status (Admin) article for more information.

  • Start Date - The Start Date for a Phase displays the date when the package's tracking status was changed to the tracking status associated with 0% for the Phase. All other percentages are ignored for the Actual table.
  • End Date - The End Date for a Phase displays the date when the package's tracking status was changed to the tracking status associated with 100% for the Phase. All other percentages are ignored for the Actual table.
  • Duration (days) Total - The Duration (days) Total displays the total number of workdays (Saturdays and Sundays) are not included.
  • Install Date - The Install Date field can be used as needed but is not used in any calculation or report.

Below is an example of the 0% and 100% tracking status associated with each Phase (Office, Purchasing, Shop, Field) under Admin > Company > Tracking Statuses.
